£70,000 Fine for Liverpool’s Arne Slot Following Red Card
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been handed a two-match touchline ban and fined £70,000 following his red card in the Merseyside derby against Everton on February 12, 2025. The Football Association (FA) imposed these sanctions after Slot admitted to acting improperly and using abusive language towards match officials post-match. His assistant, Sipke Hulshoff, received a similar two-match ban and a £7,000 fine for his conduct during the same incident.
The disciplinary actions stem from a chaotic conclusion to the 2-2 draw at Goodison Park, where tensions escalated following Everton’s last-minute equalizer. The altercation led to red cards for players Abdoulaye Doucouré and Curtis Jones, as well as the dismissals of Slot and Hulshoff. Both Liverpool and Everton were also fined £50,000 and £65,000 respectively for failing to control their players during the incident.
As a result of the ban, Slot will be absent from the touchline for Liverpool’s upcoming Premier League matches against Newcastle United on February 26 and Southampton on March 8. During his suspension, former Everton player Johnny Heitinga is expected to manage the team. Slot will return in time for the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle on March 16.
Reflecting on the incident, Slot acknowledged that emotions ran high due to extended additional time and expressed regret over his actions.
