Trump’s $5 Million Gold Card Proposal for Immigrant Citizenship

Wealthy Immigrants Offered Fast Track to Citizenship

President Donald Trump has unveiled a proposal to introduce a “gold card” visa, offering wealthy foreign nationals a fast-track to U.S. citizenship for a fee of $5 million. This initiative aims to attract affluent individuals who can significantly contribute to the U.S. economy through investment, spending, and job creation.

The proposed “gold card” would grant privileges akin to those of a green card, including residency and work authorization, while also providing a direct pathway to citizenship. This program is intended to replace the existing EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program, which required a minimum investment of $1 million and has faced criticism for fraud and inefficiency.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick emphasized that applicants would undergo rigorous vetting to ensure they are exemplary global citizens. The administration projects that this initiative could generate substantial revenue, potentially reducing the national deficit.

However, concerns have been raised about the ethical implications of monetizing citizenship and the potential for preferential treatment of the wealthy in immigration policies.
