Bandits Attack Sokoto Mosque During Morning Prayer

Four Katsina Varsity Students Taken Hostage

In the early hours of Sunday, March 2, 2025, suspected bandits abducted four students from the Paris Quarters area, located behind the Federal University, Dutsinma, in Katsina State. The incident occurred around 2:20 a.m. when a large number of assailants, armed with sophisticated weapons including AK-47 rifles, invaded the area and whisked away the victims.

The kidnapped students have been identified as Wali Kayode (25), Fahad Muhammad (20), Emmanuel (surname unknown), and one other individual whose identity has yet to be confirmed.

Upon receiving a distress call, security operatives were immediately mobilized to the scene; however, the bandits had already fled. Efforts are currently underway to track down the abductors and rescue the victims unhurt.

Dutsinma is one of the frontline local government areas in Katsina State grappling with banditry and cattle rustling, despite ongoing security and government interventions to restore peace in the region.

This incident adds to the troubling trend of abductions targeting students in Nigeria. In February 2025, gunmen abducted up to four female students from Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University in Makurdi, Benue State. Tragically, three of the kidnapped students were found dead days later, while the remaining 14 students were released after spending over a month in captivity.

The authorities are intensifying efforts to address the security challenges in the region and ensure the safe return of the abducted students.
