FCT Security: Police Address Terrorism Rumors
The Nigeria Police Force has officially refuted circulating social media messages alleging the presence of 79 terrorists in the Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, and the imposition of a curfew. In a statement released on March 2, 2025, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, clarified that these claims are entirely unfounded and should be disregarded.
The statement emphasized that intelligence gathered by the Force Intelligence teams and other security agencies indicates no terrorists are taking refuge in the Lugbe area or any part of the FCT. The viral message, falsely attributed to ACP Adejobi, was deemed a fabrication intended to incite panic and disrupt public peace.
The police urged citizens to rely solely on information disseminated through official channels, including their verified social media handles and reputable news sources. They also advised the public to exercise caution when sharing information online and to verify the authenticity of any security-related alerts with official sources before disseminating them.
Reaffirming their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in the FCT and across Nigeria, the police encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through established emergency contact lines.
