TikTokers Face Jail Time in Kano for Offensive Videos
A magistrates’ court in Kano State has sentenced two TikTok users, Ahmad Isa and Maryam Musa, to one year in prison each for posting videos deemed vulgar and offensive to the state’s religious and moral sensibilities.
The court, presided over by Justice Hadiza Muhammad Hassan, offered the option of a ₦100,000 fine for each defendant in lieu of imprisonment. Both individuals pleaded guilty to charges of criminal conspiracy and distributing obscene content on social media.
This incident is part of a broader trend in Kano State, where authorities have been actively monitoring and prosecuting individuals for content considered offensive or defamatory.
In a previous case, TikTok creators Mubarak Muhammed (Uniquepikin) and Nazifi Muhammed were remanded for allegedly defaming Governor Abdullahi Ganduje in their skits.
