Warning: Fake Knowit Insulin Syringes Found in Nigeria
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raised an alert regarding the illegal distribution and sale of substandard and falsified Knowit Insulin Syringe 40 IU 29G x 1/2 in Nigeria.
These syringes are being circulated despite the availability of standard 100 IU/ML insulin syringes. The 40 IU/ML syringes were previously used for administering animal insulins, but with the shift to human insulins standardized at 100 IU/ML, the 40 IU/ML syringes are no longer applicable or registered by NAFDAC.
NAFDAC warns that the use of these unapproved syringes could lead to dosing errors with serious adverse consequences for diabetic patients. The agency urges Nigerians to purchase insulin syringes only from reputable pharmacies and healthcare providers, ensuring they are registered with NAFDAC.
Consumers are advised to report any suspicious products or activities to NAFDAC’s Consumer Complaints Unit via email at nafdac_consumer@nafdac.gov.ng or call the toll-free number 07082815019.
