Power Generation Reaches 5713 MegaWatts: TCN Report

TCN Reports Power Generation at 5713 MegaWatts

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that the nation’s power generation reached a peak of 5,713.60 megawatts (MW) on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. This achievement surpasses the previous peak of 5,543.20MW recorded on February 14, 2025, marking the highest generation level in four years.

Despite this progress, Nigeria’s power infrastructure continues to face challenges, including aging equipment, under-investment, and incidents of vandalism, leading to frequent grid collapses. These issues have significant economic implications, with the World Bank estimating annual losses of $29 billion due to unstable power supply.

Efforts to improve the power sector include government collaborations with international organizations to build mini solar grids, aiming to enhance electricity access in rural areas. Additionally, reforms have been implemented to allow individual states to generate and transmit their own power, promoting a more decentralized and resilient energy system.
