Kano Court Imprisons TikTok Creators for Inappropriate Posts
A Magistrate Court in Kano State has sentenced two TikTok users, Ahmad Isa and Maryam Musa, to one year in prison each for sharing videos deemed offensive to religious and moral values. The Kano State Censorship Board arrested the duo, accusing them of violating public decency through their social media posts.
During the court proceedings, the prosecutor, Garzali Maigari Bichi, charged them with criminal conspiracy and disseminating illicit content online. Both individuals pleaded guilty to the charges. The presiding magistrate, Hadiza Muhammad Hassan, also provided the option of a fine of N100,000 each in lieu of imprisonment and urged the defendants to uphold good conduct.
This incident is part of a broader effort by authorities in Kano State to regulate online content and uphold religious and moral standards. The state’s Hisbah Board has previously arrested individuals for posting content considered indecent or un-Islamic.
