Fatal Blaze at Oyo Petrol Station: Two Lives Lost
Tragedy struck in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, when a fuel tanker exploded at the Orita Challenge area, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. The victims, a tanker driver and his assistant (commonly known as a motor boy), were reportedly trapped inside the vehicle and perished in the ensuing fire.
The incident occurred around 5:00 a.m. near the GABSTAB Petrol Station. Preliminary reports suggest that the explosion may have been caused by brake failure as the driver attempted to navigate a roundabout, leading to the tanker overturning and igniting.
Emergency responders from the Oyo State Fire Service were promptly dispatched to the scene, successfully containing the blaze and preventing it from spreading to nearby shops and residential areas. However, despite their swift action, the driver and motor boy were confirmed dead at the scene.
