Police Detain Suspects in Edo Priest Kidnapping Case
On March 3, 2025, at approximately 11:30 p.m., armed assailants abducted Reverend Father Philip Ekeli and seminarian Peter Andrew from St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Ivukwa, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State. In response, the Edo State Police Command, collaborating with local vigilantes and hunters, initiated a swift rescue operation.
During the ensuing confrontation, one suspect was neutralized, and four others were apprehended. Efforts are ongoing to secure the safe release of the abducted individuals and to apprehend any remaining suspects.
The Catholic Diocese of Auchi has expressed deep concern over the recurring kidnappings of clergy in the region, highlighting the urgency for enhanced security measures to protect religious leaders and their congregations.
