Legal Proceedings Begin for Woman in Farm Attack Case
Anelle de Bruin, 46, is accused of plotting to murder her husband, Johan de Bruin, a prominent Eastern Cape farmer, by orchestrating a staged “farm attack.”
The Maletswai Magistrate’s Court in the Eastern Cape has postponed her case to April 23, 2025, to allow the prosecution to gather additional evidence, including outstanding statements, photo albums, and cellphone records. De Bruin remains out on bail of R2,000 with conditions that she does not return to the family farm and has supervised visits with their children.
De Bruin was arrested on January 9, 2025, after allegedly attempting to hire hitmen to kill her husband, reportedly to claim an insurance payout exceeding R50 million. She purportedly instructed the would-be assailants to make the scene resemble a farm attack by killing the family’s dogs and damaging vehicle tires.
