
Final Year Student Murder Case: Suspect’s Testimony
In a recent development, seven individuals have been arraigned before the Kwara State High Court in Ilorin, charged with the murder of Mojisola Awesu, a final-year student at the Kwara State College of Health Technology, Offa. All seven suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges during their court appearance on March 4, 2025.
The prime suspects, Happiness Adebayo and Timileyin Kolawole, are accused of conspiring to lure Awesu to Ilorin on August 9, 2024, where she was subsequently murdered. Her dismembered body was later discovered at a dumpsite in the Warah community, Ilorin.
The other defendants, including Happiness’s parents, Adeniyi and Bukola, along with Adeoye Adeola, Lawal Aminat, and Peter Bulus, face charges related to conspiracy, destruction of evidence, and disposing of the corpse, actions punishable under the Penal Code Law of Kwara State, 2006, and the Kwara State Prohibition of Dealing in Human Parts Law, 2018.
During the court session, the prosecution, led by the state Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Idowu Akande, expressed readiness to proceed with the hearing. However, the defense counsel requested additional time to prepare, leading Justice Ibrahim Yusuf to adjourn the case to March 12, 2025, for hearing.
This case has drawn significant attention due to the gruesome nature of the crime and the involvement of multiple suspects. The upcoming court proceedings are anticipated to shed more light on the circumstances surrounding Awesu’s tragic death.
