Shocking Incident: Headteacher Clashes with Deputy
A recent incident at St Joseph’s Catholic School and Sixth Form Centre in Aberavon, South Wales, has drawn significant attention. On Wednesday, March 5, 2025, headteacher Dr. John Felton, 54, allegedly attacked deputy head Richard Pyke, 51, with a heavy-duty spanner in front of students. The altercation reportedly stemmed from a love triangle involving a female teacher at the school.
Prior to the incident, Dr. Felton sent an email to staff expressing remorse for his forthcoming actions, stating: “I’m sorry for the distress which the rest of today will bring.” He accused the female teacher of engaging in relationships with multiple staff members, including Mr. Pyke. Following the attack, Mr. Pyke was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening head injuries, and Dr. Felton was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault.
The local community has expressed concerns regarding the school’s leadership, with some parents considering keeping their children at home until the situation is addressed. South Wales Police confirmed that no knives were involved in the assault and are conducting an investigation. Neath Port Talbot council has assured that support will be provided to students and staff affected by the incident.
