Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan Defends Against Suspension

Legal Grounds for Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Continuation

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has declared her intention to continue serving as a senator, denouncing her recent six-month suspension by the Nigerian Senate as illegal.

The suspension, enacted on March 6, 2025, followed her allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. The Senate’s Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions recommended the suspension, citing procedural violations in her petition.

In response, Akpoti-Uduaghan criticized the suspension, stating it undermines principles of natural justice, fairness, and equity. She emphasized her commitment to representing her constituents and vowed to continue her legislative duties despite the Senate’s decision.

Prior to her suspension, Akpoti-Uduaghan had accused the Senate leadership of attempting to silence her, alleging plans were underway to suspend her following her confrontation with Akpabio over the reassignment of her seat
