Trump Initiates Nuclear Deal Talks with Iran

New Nuclear Negotiations Between Trump and Iran

President Donald Trump has announced his intention to negotiate a new nuclear agreement with Iran, revealing that he has sent a letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, proposing talks. In a recent interview, Trump emphasized the importance of diplomacy, stating that reaching a deal would be beneficial for Iran and preferable to military action.

The Iranian mission to the United Nations has indicated that the letter has not yet been received, while Iran’s Nour News agency dismissed the move as a show by Washington. This development follows a history of strained relations between the two nations, particularly after the U.S. withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2018 under Trump’s administration, reinstating a “maximum pressure” campaign against Iran.

In response to Trump’s outreach, Russia has offered to mediate between the U.S. and Iran, aiming for a peaceful resolution. This initiative mirrors previous U.S. attempts to engage with Iran, notably during President Barack Obama’s tenure, which led to the original JCPOA agreement.

The full interview with President Trump is scheduled to air on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” where more details about his approach to Iran are expected to be discussed.
