Plateau Community Faces Grief After Gunmen Strike
In a recent incident in Plateau State, Nigeria, gunmen attacked a community, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to several others. The assailants also set fire to homes and properties during the attack.
While no group has claimed responsibility, such incidents are often attributed to Fulani militias, given the region’s history of ethnic and religious conflicts, primarily between Muslim Fulani herders and Christian farmers.
This attack adds to a series of violent events in the region. Between December 23 and 25, 2023, coordinated mass shootings and arson affected at least 17 rural communities in Bokkos and Barkin Ladi areas, leading to approximately 200 deaths and injuries to over 500 individuals.
These incidents have intensified calls for justice and improved security measures from both local residents and the international community.
