NDDC MD’s Aide Abducted by Armed Assailants in Bayelsa
On Friday, March 7, 2025, Mr. Akari Eloghonan Loveday, the Special Adviser on Domestic Affairs to the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), was abducted by gunmen in Bayelsa State.
The incident occurred along the waterways en route to Ayakoro community in Ogbia Local Government Area, the hometown of NDDC Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku.
According to local sources, the assailants intercepted the boat carrying Mr. Loveday and other passengers. They forcibly transferred him into their own vessel, but as they attempted to flee, their engine malfunctioned. This forced them to paddle to the riverbank, after which they escaped into the surrounding bush with the victim.
In response to the abduction, security forces, including the police, have intensified efforts to locate and rescue Mr. Loveday. Increased security measures, such as stop-and-search operations, have been implemented in the area, particularly along the road leading to Otuoke.
