Suspected Ritualist Detained in Edo Designer Murder Case
On March 7, 2025, the Edo State Police Command arrested 27-year-old Uwadiae Airebiuwa in Evbuotubu Quarters, Benin City, for the alleged beheading of fashion designer Lawrence Edobor.
Edobor, 43, was attacked around 2 a.m. while returning from a burial ceremony. The suspect was found with a fresh human head at the time of arrest.
Community members expressed shock over the incident, with some noting that Edobor had attended a funeral earlier that evening. The police, in collaboration with local vigilantes, acted promptly upon receiving information about the crime.
The Edo State Police Command’s spokesperson, Moses Yamu, confirmed the arrest and stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the crime and to identify any accomplices.
