Senate Rejects Suspension of Natasha Amid Harassment Allegations

Senate Votes Against Natasha’s Suspension Over Allegations

The Nigerian Senate has clarified that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s recent six-month suspension was due to misconduct, not her sexual harassment allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele stated that Akpoti-Uduaghan was disciplined for violating Senate rules, including not sitting in her assigned seat, speaking without recognition, and making abusive remarks.

Regarding the sexual harassment allegations, the Senate’s ethics committee dismissed Akpoti-Uduaghan’s petition due to procedural violations, as it was personally signed by her, which is against Senate rules.

Akpabio has denied the harassment allegations. Akpoti-Uduaghan has filed a lawsuit against him, seeking 100 billion naira in damages.
