Armed Man Shot by US Secret Service Close to White House

In the early hours of Sunday, March 9, 2025, U.S. Secret Service agents shot an armed man near the White House following a confrontation. The individual, identified as 27-year-old Andrew Dawson from North Manchester, Indiana, had been reported by local authorities as a potentially suicidal person traveling to Washington, D.C.

The incident occurred around midnight near 17th and F Streets, close to the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. When approached by Secret Service agents, Dawson brandished a firearm, prompting agents to open fire. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital; his current condition has not been disclosed.

At the time of the incident, President Donald Trump was in Florida and not present at the White House. No Secret Service personnel were injured during the confrontation. The Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, D.C., is leading the investigation into the shooting.
