Prosecutor’s Mishap: Inappropriate Video in Court
During the bribery trial of former Colombian President Álvaro Uribe on March 7, 2025, a significant courtroom mishap occurred when Prosecutor Marlene Orjuela inadvertently played unrelated and explicit videos.
The unintended clips—a dancing individual holding a liquor bottle and an AI-generated video of a naked woman—caused laughter among those present, including the judge and attorneys. Orjuela quickly apologized, attributing the error to selecting incorrect files intended to be recorded telephone conversations pertinent to the case.
Uribe, who served as President from 2002 to 2010, faces charges of bribery and witness tampering, with potential sentences of up to 12 years for bribery and eight years for procedural fraud if convicted. Despite the courtroom incident, Uribe maintained his innocence, and the trial is scheduled to proceed with the next hearing on Tuesday.
