
Justice Served: Life Sentence for Ekiti Monarch’s Kidnapper
On March 10, 2025, an Ekiti State High Court in Ado Ekiti sentenced 25-year-old Gabriel Emmanuel to life imprisonment for kidnapping and an additional three years for extortion.
Case Details:
- Kidnapping Incident: On June 24, 2020, at Eda-Ile Ekiti, Gabriel Emmanuel and accomplices abducted Oba Adeniran Omotayo, the Eleda of Eda-Ile Ekiti.
- Extortion Attempt: On November 20, 2021, Emmanuel and others demanded ₦4 million from Barrister Joseph Olorunfemi with menacing intent.

- Charges: Emmanuel faced charges of murder, kidnapping, and demanding property with menace.
- Verdict: He was acquitted of the murder charge but found guilty of kidnapping and extortion.
- Sentencing: Justice Adekunle Adeleye sentenced Emmanuel to life imprisonment for kidnapping and three years for extortion.

Oba Omotayo recounted that armed men abducted him from his settlement, held him for four days, and released him after a ₦1.28 million ransom was paid.
