Trump’s Alarm on Global Nuclear Catastrophe
President Donald Trump has expressed serious concerns about the global threat posed by nuclear weapons, referring to them as “monster” devices with the potential to cause instantaneous global destruction. In a recent Fox News interview, he emphasized that nuclear arms represent the most significant danger to humanity, capable of ending the world “tomorrow.”
Trump criticized the substantial financial investments in nuclear arsenals, particularly highlighting the United States’ significant expenditure, which ranks second only to Russia’s. He dismissed claims that climate change poses the greatest existential threat, instead underscoring the urgent risks associated with nuclear weapons.
Additionally, Trump called for the renewal of nuclear arms control negotiations with both Russia and China, proposing significant reductions in defense budgets among the leading nuclear nations. He indicated that addressing arms control would be a priority after resolving ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine.
In related developments, the Kremlin has stated that it independently determines its policy positions, responding to questions about whether Russia had consulted with Iran regarding Trump’s recent letter urging Tehran to negotiate a new nuclear deal. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has asserted that Iran will not be pressured into negotiations.
Furthermore, in Iran, hardline factions are intensifying efforts to block President Masoud Pezeshkian from engaging in nuclear negotiations with the U.S. Despite Pezeshkian’s promise to broker a nuclear deal for sanctions relief, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has ruled out talks following the renewed “maximum pressure” sanctions from the Trump administration
