Man Threatens Suicide from Telecom Mast in Gombe

Gombe Incident: Young Man’s Desperate Debt Crisis

On March 11, 2025, in Gombe State, Nigeria, a 27-year-old man named Mohammed Bello climbed an MTN telecommunications mast on Maimala Buni Street, threatening to commit suicide due to debts owed to two creditors.

The Gombe State Police Command received a distress call and promptly dispatched officers from the Pantami Division to the scene. Upon arrival, they engaged Bello, who expressed that he was being pursued by security agencies over his debts and preferred to end his life rather than face the consequences.

The situation was resolved with the intervention of Katukan Gombe, a respected community leader, who persuaded Bello to descend by assuring him that his debts would be addressed. Following this assurance, Bello safely came down and was taken into police custody, where his statement was recorded.

The police commended the swift response of the officers and the role of community stakeholders in peacefully resolving the matter, urging the public to seek lawful and constructive solutions to financial difficulties, emphasizing that help is always available.
