Train Hijacking: 450 Passengers Held Hostage

Gunmen Threaten Execution of Train Hostages

On March 11, 2025, separatist militants from the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) hijacked the Jaffar Express passenger train in Pakistan’s Balochistan province, taking approximately 450 passengers hostage.

The attack occurred near the Ab-e-Gum area of Mach Town in the Kachhi district, where militants used explosives to derail the train and subsequently opened fire on passengers, resulting in multiple casualties.

The BLA claims to have targeted the train due to the presence of military personnel among the passengers, asserting that they have detained these individuals to negotiate the release of their imprisoned members. However, Pakistani officials dispute the presence of military personnel on board, condemning the attack as an act of terrorism.

In response, Pakistani security forces have launched a rescue operation, engaging in clashes with the militants. Reports indicate that approximately 100 passengers have been freed, while many remain captive. The operation is ongoing, with authorities striving to secure the safe release of all hostages.

The BLA has threatened to execute the hostages if their demands are not met within 48 hours, escalating tensions in the region. This incident underscores the persistent security challenges in Balochistan, where separatist groups have long been active, seeking greater autonomy and control over local resources.
