Allegations of Multiple Salary Withdrawals by Immigration Officer
Abubakar Mohammed Aseku, an Assistant Superintendent of Immigration (ASI) with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), has been arraigned by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on charges of corruption and abuse of office.
Aseku is accused of illicitly receiving a total of ₦17.6 million in salaries from three different government agencies over several years. Specifically, he allegedly drew ₦4.2 million from the Nasarawa State Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology in 2015 while serving with the NIS. Additionally, between 2018 and 2019, he purportedly received ₦13.4 million from the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) during his tenure with the NIS.
Furthermore, as a Pay Officer with the NIS, Aseku is accused of facilitating the payment of ₦4.7 million in salaries to seven individuals who were neither employees of the NIS nor on its payroll. He pleaded not guilty to all charges. The court upheld his previous bail conditions and adjourned the case until April 29 for further proceedings.
