Discovery of Decomposed Body in Nairobi Apartment
In early March 2025, the decomposing body of Nigerian national Ladi Anzaki Olubunmi was discovered in her Lower Kabete apartment in Nairobi, Kenya, three days after she was last seen. Olubunmi, a content moderator for TikTok employed by Teleperformance Kenya since 2022, had reportedly been unable to return to Nigeria for over two years.
Colleagues allege that despite her contractual entitlement to annual return tickets, she was denied leave due to concerns about her work permit status, reflecting broader issues of poor working conditions, including long hours, lack of mental health support, and low pay.
Teleperformance Kenya disputes these claims, stating that they did not deny her leave requests.
The Kenya Union of Gig Workers has called for an expedited investigation into her death, citing allegations of labor law violations and mistreatment by her employer.
Olubunmi’s family, facing financial constraints, is seeking assistance with burial arrangements in Nairobi.
