Bayer Leverkusen’s Nathan Tella Out of Super Eagles Squad
Bayer Leverkusen forward Nathan Tella has withdrawn from the Super Eagles squad due to injury. Tella, who was included in the initial 23-man roster for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, remained on the bench during Bayer Leverkusen’s 2-0 loss to Bayern Munich on March 11, 2025. Manager Xabi Alonso confirmed that Tella was not fully fit to play, leading to his subsequent withdrawal from international duty.
In response, Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has called up KAA Gent defender Jordan Torunarigha as Tella’s replacement. Torunarigha, 27, returns to the national team after last featuring in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, earning one cap for Nigeria.
