Arrest of Nigerian Drug Kingpin Shakes Colombian Airport
Joseph Chinedu Okparaejesi, a 42-year-old Nigerian national also known as “Alen,” was arrested on March 12, 2025, at El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá, Colombia. After residing in Colombia for over 12 years under the guise of a beauty industry entrepreneur, Okparaejesi was apprehended upon arrival from São Paulo, Brazil.
Authorities allege that Okparaejesi led a transnational drug trafficking network responsible for smuggling large quantities of cocaine from Colombia to Spain. His operations reportedly involved recruiting human couriers and utilizing specially designed double-bottom suitcases to conceal narcotics.
The investigation into his activities intensified following information provided by a detained drug mule, leading to his arrest and the capture of 15 associates linked to his network.
Okparaejesi faces charges related to drug trafficking, production, and distribution. Colombian authorities, in collaboration with the FBI, continue to investigate his extensive criminal operations.
