Troops Defend Gov Zulum's Convoy from Terrorist Attack

Gov Zulum’s Convoy Attacked: Troops Successfully Respond

On March 13, 2025, the convoy of Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum was attacked by Boko Haram insurgents along the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway. Troops escorting the convoy successfully repelled the assailants, resulting in the death of one soldier and injuries to two others. Governor Zulum was unharmed during the incident.

This attack is part of a series of attempts on Governor Zulum’s life. Notably, on July 29, 2020, his convoy was ambushed, leading to the deaths of five individuals, including three policemen. On September 26, 2020, another assault near Lake Chad resulted in at least 18 fatalities, comprising both security personnel and civilians. Despite these repeated threats, Governor Zulum has consistently emerged unscathed.

The persistence of such attacks underscores the ongoing security challenges in Borno State and the broader northeastern region of Nigeria, where Boko Haram insurgents continue to pose significant threats to civilian and military targets alike.
