Fresh Start for Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial: New Judge Details
The trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is scheduled to recommence on March 21, 2025, under the jurisdiction of Justice James Omotosho at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
This development follows the recusal of the previous presiding judge, Justice Binta Nyako, in September 2024, after Kanu’s legal team raised concerns about impartiality. Subsequently, Justice Nyako indefinitely adjourned the case in December 2024.
Kanu has been facing charges related to his advocacy for the actualization of Biafra, a movement seeking the secession of southeastern Nigeria. His legal team, led by Aloy Ejimakor, has expressed readiness for the upcoming trial but noted that they have yet to be served with the specific charges to be addressed before Justice Omotosho.
The reassignment of the case to Justice Omotosho marks a significant step in the ongoing legal proceedings, with the trial set to begin anew on the appointed date.
