UN Judge Arrested for Enslaving Woman at Home

Shocking Arrest: UN Judge Accused of Forced Labor

Lydia Mugambe, a United Nations judge and former Ugandan High Court judge, has been convicted in the United Kingdom for forcing a young Ugandan woman into domestic slavery. The Oxford Crown Court found Mugambe guilty on charges including breaching UK immigration law, human trafficking, modern slavery, and conspiracy to intimidate a witness.

Mugambe, 49, deceived the victim into coming to the UK under the pretense of legitimate employment. Once in the country, the victim was compelled to work as an unpaid maid and childcare provider, with her passport confiscated to prevent her from leaving. The victim’s freedom was severely restricted, and she was not permitted to seek other employment.

The victim eventually sought assistance, leading to a police investigation. During her arrest, Mugambe attempted to claim diplomatic immunity due to her judicial positions; however, this claim was dismissed, and she was taken into custody.

Mugambe’s sentencing is scheduled for May 2, 2025. The University of Oxford, where she was pursuing a doctorate in law, has initiated its own disciplinary proceedings, which could result in her expulsion.

Mugambe, who is also a High Court judge in Uganda, was found guilty on Thursday of conspiring to facilitate the commission of a breach of UK immigration law. Read the full story at DailyMail.com.
