New Travel Ban: 43 Countries Affected by Trump’s Order
President Donald Trump’s administration is preparing to implement extensive travel restrictions affecting citizens from 43 countries, including Russia and Belarus. This initiative is part of a broader immigration crackdown aimed at enhancing national security.
The proposed policy divides the affected countries into three categories based on the severity of the restrictions:
- Full Visa Suspensions: Eleven countries, including Afghanistan, Cuba, Iran, and North Korea, are slated for complete visa suspensions, effectively barring their citizens from entering the United States.
- Partial Visa Suspensions: Nations such as Eritrea, Haiti, and Myanmar may face partial visa suspensions, restricting specific visa categories like tourist and student visas.
- Conditional Restrictions: Countries including Angola, Belarus, and Pakistan have been given a 60-day period to address identified deficiencies; failure to do so could result in partial visa suspensions.
This proposal is reminiscent of the 2017 travel ban that targeted several Muslim-majority countries, a policy that faced significant legal challenges before being upheld by the Supreme Court in 2018.
The current list of countries under consideration includes:
- Red List (Full Visa Suspensions): Afghanistan, Bhutan, Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, Yemen.
- Orange List (Partial Visa Suspensions): Eritrea, Haiti, Myanmar, Nigeria, Tanzania.
- Yellow List (Conditional Restrictions): Angola, Belarus, Pakistan, and others.
The administration has issued a 60-day ultimatum to the countries on the conditional list to address specific deficiencies to avoid the imposition of travel restrictions.
