NDLEA Seizes Cocaine and Opioids Hidden in Prayer Beads

Cocaine and Opioids Discovered in Prayer Beads by NDLEA

In a series of recent operations, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) intercepted various illicit drug consignments concealed in religious items and personal effects intended for international destinations. These seizures underscore the innovative methods employed by drug trafficking organizations and the agency’s commitment to curbing such activities.

Key Seizures:

  • Cocaine Concealed in Prayer Beads and Shoes: NDLEA operatives intercepted shipments containing 230 grams of cocaine ingeniously hidden within prayer beads, the soles of locally made shoes, and packs of board games. These consignments were en route to countries including Saudi Arabia, Poland, and the United Arab Emirates.
  • Tramadol and Skunk En Route to Italy: A 43-year-old businesswoman, Jakpor Egware May, was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos while attempting to board an Air France flight to Italy. A search of her luggage revealed 190 parcels of Tramadol 225mg and an additional parcel of skunk, a potent strain of cannabis. May admitted to purchasing the drugs with the intent to resell them in Italy.
  • Skunk Shipment to the USA: At the export shed of the Lagos airport, NDLEA officers apprehended a 60-year-old suspect, Yahaya Fatai Ayinla, who was attempting to ship clothing items concealing 400 grams of skunk to New York, USA.
  • Drugs Hidden in Vitamin C Bottles and Clothing: At various logistics companies in Lagos, NDLEA operatives disrupted efforts to export over two kilograms of substances such as Loud (a high-grade cannabis), Molly (MDMA), and Tramadol (in 365mg and 225mg dosages). These drugs were cleverly concealed within Vitamin C bottles and female clothing destined for the United States.

Agency’s Stance:

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi expressed concern over the desecration of religious items for drug trafficking, especially during holy periods. He emphasized the agency’s dedication to intercepting such illicit activities and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
