Bishop Stephen Zondo's Trial for Alleged Assault Postponed

Allegations Against Bishop Zondo: Trial Delayed

The trial of Bishop Stephen Bafana Zondo, leader of the Rivers of Living Waters Church, has been postponed to Wednesday, March 19, 2025. This delay allows the defense team to obtain a judgment confirming that Zondo has a case to answer.

Zondo faces ten charges, including allegations of sexual assault and the rape of seven women, most of whom are members of his church. On March 14, his application to have some charges dismissed was rejected by Judge Mokhine Mosopa, who stated that there is a need for the accused to answer to the allegations.

The trial has experienced multiple delays. In September 2024, proceedings were postponed to 2025 to accommodate further preparations. Additionally, in October 2024, the trial was rescheduled to March 2025 to allow the defense to challenge expert testimony on delayed reporting by victims
