Murja Kunya: TikTok Star Arrested by EFCC for Naira Abuse
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested popular TikTok personality Murja Ibrahim Kunya in Kano State for alleged abuse of the Nigerian naira. The arrest is reportedly linked to her involvement in spraying and stepping on naira notes, actions considered as naira abuse under Nigerian law.
This incident is part of the EFCC’s broader efforts to address currency abuse in Nigeria. The commission has been actively pursuing individuals who engage in practices that violate currency regulations, aiming to preserve the integrity of the nation’s legal tender.
As of now, the EFCC has not released an official statement regarding Murja Kunya’s arrest. Investigations are ongoing, and upon completion, she is expected to be charged in court.
This is not the first time Murja Kunya has faced legal issues related to her social media activities. In February 2023, she was arrested by the Kano State Hisbah Board for allegedly engaging in immoral activities and corrupting public morals through her content. She was subsequently charged in a Shari’a court, where she pleaded not guilty. Following her release, she temporarily left the state and maintained a low profile.
