Free Tuition at Harvard for Families with $200K Income
Harvard University has announced a significant expansion of its financial aid program, aiming to make education more accessible to a broader range of students. Starting in the 2025-26 academic year, the university will implement the following changes:
- Free Tuition for Families Earning Up to $200,000: Undergraduate students from families with annual incomes of $200,000 or less will be eligible for free tuition.
- Comprehensive Coverage for Families Earning Up to $100,000: Students from families earning $100,000 or less annually will have all billed expenses covered, including tuition, housing, food, health insurance, and travel costs. Additionally, these students will receive a $2,000 start-up grant in their first year and a $2,000 launch grant during their junior year to support their transition beyond Harvard.
These enhancements are designed to widen the array of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives within Harvard’s student body, fostering both intellectual and personal growth. The university estimates that approximately 86% of U.S. families will qualify for some form of financial aid under the new policy.
This initiative aligns Harvard with other prestigious institutions, such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the University of Pennsylvania, which have also implemented similar financial aid expansions to support middle-income families.
By reducing the financial barriers to higher education, Harvard aims to attract a diverse and talented student population, ensuring that financial circumstances do not hinder access to its educational opportunities.
