Lagos Corper's Viral Video: Sowore Visits NYSC Office

Sowore and Lagos Corper: A Viral Video Incident Explained

Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist and former presidential candidate, has publicly supported Ushie Rita Uguamaye, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member who faced backlash after posting a viral video criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s administration. On March 17, Sowore met with Uguamaye in Lagos and accompanied her, along with a team of attorneys, to the NYSC Local Government Inspector’s (LGI) office.

In her TikTok video, Uguamaye expressed concerns about Nigeria’s economic challenges and openly criticized President Tinubu’s leadership. Following the video’s circulation, she alleged receiving threats and was subsequently summoned by the NYSC to appear before the LGI office at Eti-Osa 3.

Sowore’s involvement has sparked discussions about freedom of expression and the potential consequences for public dissent within the NYSC framework. As of now, the NYSC has not publicly commented on the matter, and it remains to be seen whether Uguamaye will face any disciplinary actions.
