Times Square Tragedy: Man Horrifically Burned in Attack
In the early hours of March 16, 2025, a 45-year-old man was attacked and set on fire near Times Square in New York City. The incident occurred around 4 a.m. at West 41st Street and 7th Avenue. The victim reported that an individual approached him, doused him with a liquid—believed to be flammable—and ignited it.
Responding officers observed the man engulfed in flames and, with assistance from the FDNY, extinguished the fire. The victim sustained burns to his face and arms and was transported to a local hospital, where he is listed in stable condition and expected to survive.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the victim and the assailant were acquainted, though the exact nature of their relationship remains under investigation. The suspect fled the scene northbound on Broadway and is currently at large. Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage to aid in identifying and apprehending the perpetrator.
This incident follows a series of similar attacks in New York City. In December 2024, a 67-year-old man was set on fire at Penn Station, and days prior, a woman was attacked with fire on a subway train. These events have raised concerns about public safety and prompted discussions among city officials regarding measures to address such violent crimes.
