Court Case: Mum’s Cocaine Use While Driving Kids to School

​A 36-year-old mother, Hayley Berry, was found heavily intoxicated on cocaine while driving her children to school in Broadstairs, Kent, in November 2024.

Concerned parents intervened, taking her car keys and escorting her children safely to school before alerting the authorities. Berry’s blood test revealed benzoylecgonine levels of 83 micrograms per liter, exceeding the legal limit of 50 micrograms, and the presence of GHB within legal limits.

She pleaded guilty to drug-driving charges and received an eight-week suspended jail sentence, a 30-month driving ban, 100 hours of unpaid community work, and was ordered to pay court costs and a victim surcharge. Berry expressed remorse and is actively working to overcome her addiction.
