Minute Silence for Player: Football Club’s Surprising Twist
βIn a recent incident, Bulgarian football club Arda Kardzhali mistakenly held a minute’s silence for their former player, Petko Ganchev, believing he had passed away. The tribute took place before their match against Levski Sofia, with players from both teams gathering at the center circle to honor Ganchev.
However, it was later discovered that Ganchev, aged 78, was alive and well. The club promptly issued a public apology for the error, extending their best wishes to Ganchev and expressing regret for any distress caused.
Ganchev recounted the surreal experience, mentioning that his wife was particularly shaken by the false news. He learned about the mix-up upon returning home and was surprised by the numerous calls from concerned friends and relatives.
The match concluded in a 1-1 draw, with Arda Kardzhali’s late goal dampening Levski Sofia’s title aspirations. Despite the unusual circumstances, both teams displayed professionalism throughout the game.
