Attack on Rivers Petrol Pipeline: Police Question Two

On March 17, 2025, an explosion occurred on the Trans-Niger Pipeline (TNP) near Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area, Rivers State. The blast took place close to the Bodo-Bonny Road, which is currently under construction.

Authorities have yet to determine the exact cause of the explosion. This incident follows recent threats by militant groups to target oil installations in response to the Federal Government’s withholding of Rivers State’s allocation amid ongoing political tensions.

The TNP is a critical infrastructure component, transporting crude oil to the Bonny Export Terminal. Disruptions to its operations could have significant economic and environmental consequences.

In response to the explosion, the Rivers State Police Command has initiated an investigation and invited two individuals for questioning to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident. Emergency response teams and security agencies are actively working to contain the fire and assess the situation.
