Rivers State Crisis: Has a Subordinate Tied the President’s Hands?
Businessman Atedo Peterside has raised concerns regarding the recent political developments in Rivers State. In a social media post, he questioned: “On the Rivers State crisis, what if a manipulative subordinate has successfully ‘tied the President’s hands’?”
This inquiry comes in the wake of President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, leading to the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and state lawmakers for six months. The president cited escalating political tensions and recent incidents of pipeline vandalism as reasons for this decisive action.
Peterside’s comment suggests a possible internal influence affecting the president’s decision-making process, hinting that an advisor or subordinate may have unduly influenced the president’s actions regarding the crisis in Rivers State.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has also criticized the emergency declaration, describing it as “political manipulation” and asserting that President Tinubu cannot evade responsibility for the turmoil in Rivers State.
