Georgia Mountain Tragedy: Firefighter Arrested in Case
A volunteer firefighter has been arrested in connection with the investigation into the deaths of 19-year-old twin brothers, Qaadir Malik Lewis and Naazir Rahim Lewis, who were found dead on Bell Mountain in Hiawassee, Georgia. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) charged 42-year-old Scott Kerlin with misdemeanor obstruction, alleging he took photos of the death scene and shared them publicly.
The brothers, residents of Lawrenceville, Georgia, were discovered with gunshot wounds on March 8, 2025. Preliminary investigations by the GBI and the Towns County Sheriff’s Office suggested a possible murder-suicide; however, official determinations are pending further forensic testing.
Family members dispute the murder-suicide theory, emphasizing the twins’ close relationship and lack of connection to Bell Mountain. They noted that the brothers had planned to travel to Boston on March 7 but missed their flight. The family is advocating for a continued and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Kerlin’s actions have raised concerns about protocol violations during active investigations. He has been terminated from his position as a volunteer firefighter in Towns County.
The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities urging anyone with pertinent information to contact the GBI.
