Fagbemi Advocates for Unblocking Rivers Allocation
Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, has confirmed that the Federal Government will release Rivers State’s monthly allocation to the newly appointed administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Étè Ibas (retd.), following the recent declaration of a state of emergency in the state.
Fagbemi emphasized that this decision aligns with the current extraordinary circumstances, stating that if the administrator requests the funds, it would be appropriate to release them to ensure the continuity of governance and public services in Rivers State.
He also defended President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of the state of emergency, asserting that it was a timely and necessary intervention to prevent a potential collapse of governance in the state. Fagbemi highlighted that the President had previously attempted to mediate the political crisis in Rivers State before resorting to this measure.
This development underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to maintaining stability and ensuring the effective administration of Rivers State during this period.
