AGF Fagbemi Cautions States: Don’t Challenge the FG
Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, has issued a stern warning to state governments, emphasizing the Federal Government’s readiness to take decisive action to protect national interests.
This warning comes in the wake of the recent declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, following reports of pipeline vandalism allegedly linked to state officials.
Fagbemi highlighted the strategic importance of Nigeria’s oil sector, stating that any attack on critical infrastructure is not just an assault on Rivers State but on the entire nation.
He underscored that the Federal Government would not hesitate to impose stricter sanctions on any state found compromising national stability.
The AGF further clarified that the Supreme Court’s judgment provided the legal basis for President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of emergency in Rivers State, asserting that the decision was necessary to protect vital assets and restore governance in the state.
