British Airways Incident: Crew Member Charged with Rape
A British Airways (BA) cabin crew member has been arrested in Singapore on allegations of raping a stewardess colleague during a layover between flights. The incident reportedly occurred after a night out involving multiple crew members.
Following the alleged assault, the accused male crew member was detained by Singaporean authorities and is currently in custody. In response, British Airways has dispatched managers to Singapore to liaise with local officials and provide support. Additionally, two female staff members involved have been flown back to the UK.
Under Singaporean law, a conviction for rape can result in a prison sentence of up to 20 years, along with possible fines or corporal punishment, such as caning.
This incident adds to a series of recent challenges for British Airways concerning staff conduct during layovers. Previous cases include allegations of drug use and a pilot accused of sexual assault in Singapore.
British Airways has stated: “This is a matter for the police, and it would be inappropriate to comment further.”
