Tragic Assassination of MACBAN LG Chairman in Plateau
Muhammad Adamu, the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, was tragically assassinated on March 19, 2025. The incident occurred shortly after he had broken his fast for the day.
The assailants, who remain unidentified, attacked Adamu at his residence in Barkin Ladi. This marks the third attempt on his life, with the previous two attempts being unsuccessful.
Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, the Plateau State Chairman of MACBAN, has condemned the killing and called on security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation to apprehend those responsible.
This incident is part of a troubling pattern of attacks against MACBAN officials. In January 2025, Surajo Rufa’i, the acting chairman of MACBAN in Katsina State, was killed by suspected bandits at his residence in Mai-Rana village, Kusada Local Government Area. Similarly, in November 2019, Sa’adu Musa, the MACBAN chairman in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, was also assassinated by gunmen.
The repeated targeting of MACBAN leaders underscores the escalating insecurity faced by pastoralist communities in Nigeria. These incidents highlight the urgent need for enhanced security measures and comprehensive investigations to address the violence affecting these communities.
