Atiku Announces Coalition Against APC for 2027 Elections

2027 Elections: Atiku Confirms Anti-APC Coalition

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has announced the formation of a coalition of opposition political parties aimed at challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections. This announcement was made during a press conference at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja on March 20, 2025.

Atiku was joined by notable political figures, including former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Labour Party (LP) spokesperson Yunusa Tanko, and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Emeka Ihedioha. The coalition aims to present a united front to unseat President Bola Tinubu and the APC in the upcoming elections.

The coalition also addressed recent political developments, notably condemning President Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, which led to the suspension of elected officials, including Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu. Atiku described the action as unconstitutional and an overreach of presidential powers, calling on Nigerians to reject it.

This coalition signifies a strategic move by opposition leaders to consolidate efforts in challenging the APC’s dominance in Nigerian politics. The coming together of diverse political figures indicates a concerted effort to provide a formidable alternative in the 2027 elections.
