Hiphop Leader Big U Surrenders: Rollin’ 60s Crips News
Eugene “Big U” Henley Jr., a prominent figure in the hip-hop industry and alleged leader of the Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips, has surrendered to federal authorities following a comprehensive indictment. The charges against Henley, 58, encompass a range of serious offenses, including murder, kidnapping, extortion, human trafficking, and fraud.
Federal prosecutors allege that Henley operated a “mafia-like” organization, referred to as the “Big U Enterprise,” leveraging his influence within the gang to intimidate and extort businesses and individuals across Los Angeles. The indictment also accuses him of embezzling funds from his anti-gang charity, Developing Options, purportedly using it as a facade for illicit activities.
One of the gravest allegations involves the 2021 murder of an aspiring rapper, identified in court documents as “R.W.” Prosecutors claim that after R.W. recorded a song deemed disrespectful towards Henley, he was confronted and subsequently killed, with his body discovered in the Nevada desert.
Before surrendering, Henley publicly declared his innocence, attributing the charges to his community activism. He stated, “This [is] the price of being Black and trying to help somebody, trying to help your community and do what you can.”
Henley appeared in federal court on Thursday, with a detention hearing scheduled for March 31 and an arraignment set for April 8. If convicted, he faces a potential life sentence.
